Following on from
the success of the youngsters that attended our Games Day in
February, the riding club held a Youngsters Day on 15th April
at Langfaulds Stables, near Saline. Seven young Exmoor ponies
attended ranging in age from rising 1 to 4 years old, three ponies
making their first journey away from where they were born, near
Peebles.
The day consisted of a "scary" area, where the youngsters
could safely experience items such as balloons, rugs, poles etc,
a session on groundwork techniques, a mini-show to allow them
to gain experience of an inhand class (including judge with silly
big skirt and hat!) and the scariness of being handed a rosette!
The day was rounded off by a Handy Pony competition - (see below
for the results).
All the ponies behaved really well over the day, including the
two year old colt having his first experience of the outside
world, and all the ponies and their owners gained confidence
over the day. Everyone went home happy, clutching rosettes and
a couple with the extra prizes for winner of the Handy Pony and
"Most Improved" award.
The next riding club event planned is a Pimms and Polo day on
the weekend of 21st/22nd July (date TBC). In the planning stage
are a Cross Country session in August, dressage/jumping training
along with, time permitting, a showing tips day prior to the
EPS Scottish Area Show on 1st September. There are also social
events, minus the ponies, planned, for further information please
